East Rock Park Hamden ConnecticutThis is part of an 18 week, 7,532 mile, Vanabode road trip detailed in the
book from Amazon We drive four miles up to the top of a small mountain just outside of town to take in East Rock Park. Breathtaking views welcome us at the top of what we thought would be a mundane location. It gets a little confusing here. East Rock Park is the city of New Haven but the town of Hamden claims it as well. Now New Haven operates it as a city park. We don't care who claims it as long as it is free. Above: Saw this joker on the way in to town. I can't imagine that is good for the parts of the car submerged in water? We see thousands of trees, hundreds of buildings, a few small cliffs, and a forty-mile stretch of the Long Island Sound. Short skyscrapers (by this town’s standards) stab at the sky. Boats cruise the little rivers below. Piercing church steeples peek above the tree line. The monument up top hosts a wide range of races. Everybody is playing and enjoying the park together: Indians, Arabs, Asians, Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Pakistanis, and multiracials. I did not expect Connecticut to be so racially diverse, but like Florida, California, Hawaii, and Las Vegas, it makes it so much more fun.
