Ellsworth and Petosky Road Trip on $20 a dayThis is part of an 18 week, 7,532 mile, Vanabode road trip detailed in the
book from Amazon Later in Ellsworth cherry tree groves line both sides of the road. My Barbados cherry tree in Florida produces tart fruit for nine months a year. By contrast these cherry trees in cold country only put out for about two months. But they are certainly making up for it right now, as the branches are laden with bright red tart cherries, dark maroon sweet cherries, and yellow ones too. Each tree droops under the load of so much fruit, despite having few leaves to weigh them down. Kelly and I pick a few baskets full and pay two dollars a pound at the adjacent farm store. The cherries are delightful. Above: Along the way we spot this old red rusty ship dry docked on land in Michigan. Above: I can't tell if this picture is interesting or creepy? Above: At eight thirty night approaches, so we pull over and take a seat at a cliff park, perched hundreds of feet up over the lake. The sun will not set for an hour, but it’s more beautiful by the minute. Forty others join us, as the white sun turns yellow, then orange, and finally crimson. It bleeds down into the horizon with horizontal zigzag lines of red alternating with lake blue. Two hours later we take sleep in Petosky not far from the Canadian border.
