Fort Phoenix State Beach and Reservation FairhavenThis is part of an 18 week, 7,532 mile, Vanabode road trip detailed in the
book from Amazon Above: We eat lunch on the cliffs above the marinas. Then we head across the bay to Fairhaven’s Fort Phoenix State Beach and Reservation. Over a thousand people come and go over the course of the seven hours we are here. Above: The peninsula is beautiful, complete with rocky beaches, sandy lots, ocean breezes, grassy hills, house sized rocks for climbing on, cannons from the old fort, a four hundred yard long foot traffic only bridge, bathrooms, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball pits, and playgrounds.
Calm inland waters lap the shore on the inside coastal portion of the bay. Sunbathers are washed up ashore like tired seals during these early days of June. We head out on the bridge to watch the sun go down over New Bedford across the bay. Above: One lanky young teenager and her tiny little sister walk a forty pound steel gray piglet. He tip toes over the pavement. Kelly and I smile at each other from ear to ear. We are always surprised on our travels. For thousands of unforgettable experiences on this affordable
