New Jersey Road Trip on $20 a dayThis is part of an 18 week, 7,532 mile, Vanabode road trip detailed in the
book from Amazon The next morning we get up to a crisp sixty-five degrees on the beach at Sandy Hook National Recreational Area, a really super nice place by Jersey standards. At seven am there are already about twenty fishermen in rubber overall waders per parking lot. Surfers don thick black wetsuits and mount long boards to catch angry cold frothy two footers. Car sized black boulders line portions of the beach. Below: the sun is impossibly bright and clear in the cloudless sky and lights up the inland parts of Sandy Hook.
Above: Atlantic City was not good for us in the beginning (read more in the book) but the architecture along the coast and oceanfront was stunning, expensive, and obviously high maintenance. New Jersey's Deep Cut Gardens are a special treat this time of year, here they offer us the weeping creature tree. Deep Cut Gardens has the best manicured garden style topiary displays we have seen this trip. Above: We eat at a bright pretty lake in a city park on our way to Princeton University. Kelly files her nails in the sun. I shave in the van. Big noisy geese alight on the lake in front of us. I see deer in the woods behind me in the side view mirror. For thousands of unforgettable experiences on this affordable
