Imperial Beach CaliforniaImperial Beach California - camping and city information. Imperial Beach is the most southwesterly community in the U.S. Quiet, solitary, and still a bit of a hippie community, this is a great beach for relaxation away from the crowds. The Imperial Beach Fishing Pier is a popular place for fishing. Imperial Beach is home to the yearly U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition because it has some of the best sane in the nation. It has a park with picnic, volleyball, and basketball areas and a playground for kids, as well as restrooms and showers. There are two wildlife sanctuaries and a state park just south of Imperial Beach. The Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge, the Tijuana River National Estuarine Sanctuary, and Border Field State Park offer opportunities for hiking and birdwatching. Kelly's thoughts - A lonely beach away from the action around the Pier. I thought this beach was a little boring except in the distance you could see Mexico's Plaza Monumental, where they have bull fights. The beach was cool and windy.
Jason's thoughts - Cool beach with lots of free parking but no views from cliff tops and lots of rocks around. Saw a few guys with crossbows leashed with spools of heavy gauge fishing line so they could "spear fish" right from the beach in knee-deep water. Kelly and I sat down on some warm rocks and double peed because there were no bathrooms and the water was freezing. Can see many hilltop buildings in Mexico from here. Travel Info - There is no RV parking at Imperial Beach. Imperial Beach is 20 miles south of downtown San Diego and a few miles short of the Mexican border. South on I-5 from San Diego and exit west on Palm Avenue / Highway 75. Imperial Beach follows Seacoast Drive, starting a couple blocks north of Palm Avenue and continuing south.
