There was much testing that was involved including, Ethanol, Methanol, bio-diesel, Fumigated Ethanol, LNG, LPG, CNG and Hydrogen fuel cells. The Gillig Hybrid was found to be the best new propulsion system with the least amount of worries and had the best benefits. The Gillig Hybrid of the Low Floor model is a diesel hybrid electrical propulsion system that diminishes emissions, is quieter than the common bus, is economically and environmentally friendly, and is a fuel saver. GM's Allison Division supplied the drive system. It uses the newest parallel drive technologies, which are proven more able than the original series systems. To optimize efficiency and performance, this bus has longer life, non-hazardous and maintenance free NiMH batteries. These batteries store braking energy and advanced solid state controllers which manage the power sources. The Low Floor Gillig Hybrid bus can be found in 30', 35', and 40' sizes. It has the option of being combined with the BRT styling packages. Testing proves that these buses are the most reliable, have the least down time, are quieter and the most fuel efficient than other buses. The community and environmentalists will love you as will your wallet. The 30 Foot Hybrid bus's overall length is 30', it has a turning radius of 29', and its overall height is 132''. The Hybrid 35 Foot bus provides an overall length of 36', turning radius of 36' as well and overall height of 132''.
