This page I wrote for my old rv website RVforSaleGuide.com before developing the Vanabode as the best travel vehicle for cheap easy long term road trips. People still like big rv's despite the much greater cost and trouble to operate, so here's what I know about them.

RV Consignment

RV consignment agreements can result in selling your rv quickly at a fair price. RV consignment may be a new term to you. However, if you like the sound of selling your motorhome quickly, at a fair price, with no phone calls, appointments to show the RV or worries of the buyers obtaining financing, then selling your motorhome on consignment is a great option for you. I also have a lot of information on selling your rv yourself.

A consignment dealer can get your motorhome's information out there in a few different ways. In addition to foot traffic on sales lots they can also do advertising through direct mail or over the web and email which definitely increases your chances of selling your RV faster.

Consignment dealers offer different services including determining a fair market price for your RV, doing the paperwork involved in getting your motorhome paid off, advertising in traditional and electronic media, and accepting trade-ins or paying immediate cash for your RV. Sometimes for an extra fee, dealers may even offer some other services for your RV which may include, cleaning, detailing, commission, and systems checks. In Houston, Texas PPL Motor Homes will charge a 10% commission that will be due once the RV is sold. Minimum commission is around $1,500 for diesels, motorhomes and van conversions.

RV consignment dealerships are a lot of the time visible from major highways. These lots are usually well lit, safe, and have routine security checks during the night. Despite safety and security measures, a consigned RV still can be damaged by fire, vandalism, falling objects, inclement weather, or in a traffic accident during a test drive. So it is a smart idea to check with your insurance agent before signing an agreement with a consignment company to see if your RV is covered on the dealer's lot.

Different motorhome insurance companies may state it differently in their policies and may not point out the fact that you're not covered while on a dealers lot. So be sure to keep yourself informed and know these things ahead of time, as it could cause a hassle if you decide to sell later on with RV consignment dealer.
